Zara suffered from extreme reactivity to the doorbell and visitors. Zara’s reactivity improved dramatically by the end of our visit.
The Sydney Dog Trainer has all the tips and tricks to help you build an amazing recall.

The Sydney Dog Trainer offers expert in-home dog training services for behavioural, puppy, and obedience training in the convenience of your own home or surrounding neighbourhood. Aside from convenience, it is absolutely essential that the training for behavioural issues takes place where the issue/issues are occurring!
We excel in delivering professional training that is tailored to meet the specific needs of your furry companion. With years of experience, we understand the importance of creating a lasting bond with your dog while providing effective training to enhance their behaviour. Whether you want to improve your puppy’s obedience or require behavioural training for your adult dog, we will work with you to achieve your desired goals. Choose our professional and personalised training services that are aimed at providing a comfortable and supportive learning environment for your furry friend. Contact us today to schedule your dog’s in-home training session.
You wouldn’t go to an unqualified doctor to get medical help. Yet hundreds, if not thousands of Australians every year unknowingly hire unqualified or inexperienced dog trainers and dog behaviourists to help them with their beloved fur friends. To be fair most dog trainers and dog behaviourists in days gone by started out with no formal training but those days are or should be long gone. In what is now a multi million dollar industry and a good choice of recognised dog trainer certification courses available there is simply no excuse for a dog trainer/behaviourist not to get his/her certification. It is highly advisable to hire an accredited trainer or dog behaviourist for better results.
If your new to the dog training industry you will invariably come across some services advertising guarantees that may seem appealing at first glance but often come with significant limitations. It’s essential to understand the implications of these promises to make an informed decision.
Satisfaction Guarantees
This type of guarantee often states that if you’re not satisfied by the end of the session, you don’t have to pay. While this might sound reassuring, owners may find that the immediate results achieved during the session didn’t translate into long-term improvements. When issues resurface the next day, attempting to claim a refund will be problematic, as the decision to pay is typically required at the session’s conclusion. Furthermore, the nature of in-person interactions can make it challenging to express dissatisfaction, even if results don’t meet expectations.
Lifetime Guarantees
Another common promise is a “lifetime guarantee,” where trainers offer unlimited revisits for a high upfront fee, often exceeding $1,500. While this may seem like a safety net, the need for multiple follow-up visits can indicate that the initial training wasn’t effective.
Many owners have sought our services despite having access to these guarantees, often because the methods employed remain unchanged and ineffective. Investing in such a guarantee may not offer real value if the core issues aren’t resolved during the first visit and if they are then you have paid for something that you are never going to use!
Ultimately, effective training should prioritise sustainable solutions tailored to your dog’s specific needs. Rather than relying on guarantees, focus on finding an accredited trainer with a proven track record, transparent communication, and a commitment to empowering you with the skills needed to reinforce positive behaviour over time.

If your new to the dog training industry you will invariably come across some services advertising guarantees that may seem appealing at first glance but often come with significant limitations. SATISFACTION GUARANTEES
This type of guarantee often states that if you’re not satisfied by the end of the session, you don’t have to pay. While this might sound reassuring, owners may find that the immediate results achieved during the session didn't translate into long-term improvements. When issues resurface the next day, attempting to claim a refund will be problematic, as the decision to pay is typically required at the session’s conclusion. Furthermore, the nature of in-person interactions can make it challenging to express dissatisfaction, even if results don’t meet expectations.
REAL LIFE EXAMPLE
To illustrate the risks, consider the experience of a dog owner who reached out to us after working with another dog behaviourist who guaranteed results. Unfortunately, the promised improvements didn’t last. Despite assurances that the behaviour wouldn't return after the session, it actually worsened. When the owner sought help, she was brushed off, leaving her frustrated and without a solution.
Unfortunately the dog's unwanted behaviour was unknowingly somehow being reinforced by the owner after the visit, making the issue worse. If reinforcement is happening, the problem won’t resolve on its own (despite what the behaviourist said)—it will only escalate. Scheduling a phone or video consultation at an appropriate time could of have helped identify why the behaviour was worsening and what needed to change, but instead, the owner was left feeling misled and unsupported.
This situation is a cautionary tale about end-of-session satisfaction guarantees. While they might seem comforting, they often do little to ensure real, lasting results for you and your dog. When choosing a trainer, look beyond marketing promises and focus on proven, ethical training methods that truly set you and your dog up for long-term success.
